Regenerative therapies for tympanic membrane

نویسندگان

چکیده

It is estimated that by 2050 one in every ten people will be suffering from disabling hearing loss. Perforated tympanic membranes (TMs) are the most common injury to human ear, resulting a partial or complete loss due inept sound conduction. Commonly known as eardrum, TM thin, concave tissue of middle ear captures pressure waves environment and transmits them mechanical vibrations inner ear. Microsurgical placement autologous graft has been “gold standard” for treating damaged TMs; however, incongruent structural properties these autografts often impair an optimal restoration following recovery. Moreover, given lack available tissues transplantations, regenerative medicine emerged promising alternative. Several engineered approaches applying bio-instructive scaffolds stimuli have reported regeneration, which can broadly classified into repair reconstruction. This review evaluates current advantages challenges both strategies with special focus on use recent biofabrication technologies advancing engineering.

Regenerative Therapies for Diabetic Microangiopathy

Hyperglycaemia occurring in diabetes is responsible for accelerated arterial remodeling and atherosclerosis, affecting the macro- and the microcirculatory system. Vessel injury is mainly related to deregulation of glucose homeostasis and insulin/insulin-precursors production, generation of advanced glycation end-products, reduction in nitric oxide synthesis, and oxidative and reductive stress. ...

Two Mathematical Models for the Tympanic Membrane

In this project we present two mathematical models for the human tympanic membrane. The eardrum can be viewed as an example of the vibrating drum problem. In the first model, we treat the tympanic membrane as a rectangular region. In the second model the tympanic membrane is considered as a disk. Both models use a wave equations. We study the impact of changes in the membrane tension related to...

Cell-based therapies for skeletal regenerative medicine.

Skeletal deficits represent a substantial biomedical burden on the US healthcare system. Current strategies for reconstructing bony defects are fraught with inadequacies. Cell-based therapies for skeletal regeneration offer a paradigm shift that may provide alternative solutions. Substantial work has identified a host of cellular sources that possess the potential for osteogenic differentiation...

Regenerative cellular therapies for neurologic diseases.

The promise of stem cell regeneration has been the hope of many neurologic patients with permanent damage to the central nervous system. There are hundreds of stem cell trials worldwide intending to test the regenerative capacity of stem cells in various neurological conditions from Parkinson's disease to multiple sclerosis. Although no stem cell therapy is clinically approved for use in any hu...
